Monkey Chukas C'tan Conversion: The Sequel
Today we get a follow up on Monkey Chukas C'tan conversion. GSI was asked for some follow up photos by Netsurfer733, so I asked Monkey Chuka, and MC came through with this excellent sequel...

Twin Eagles Tournament 2015, Winnipeg Canada
I just got this email run down of the Twin Eagles event from Scott, the TO...
A week has passed since the Twin Eagles Warhammer 40k tournament took place and after finding some time to collect all the data and get a bit of rest, I've finally composed an email for ya to show you how the event went. But before we get to the list, I just wanted to thank you and the Green Stuff Industries team again for supporting the event.

DzC Scenario Day - Rescue at Dunkirk, Eden Prime
by Novus
Endgame, my FLGS, has a Dropzone Commander day on the first Saturday of every month. Usually there is some event planned, like a tournament or a campaign day. But, this month nothing was scheduled and we were only about 8 days out. Mike, of Endgame, and Steve, a local player and formerly of Endgame, put the call out for ideas. I spoke up with an idea that has been in my mental system tray for a few months: a Dunkirk-style rescue scenario. Mike told me to run with it and here’s what happened.

Recent Tentacle Maker Work
Just thought I should share some great Tentacle Maker work that was forwarded to me by some of my customers.

Keeping Your Small Dropships Alive
by Novus
With the abundance of AA in Dropzone Commander of late (especially in the Bay Area meta), it can be very hard to keep your light dropships and their precious cargo alive. Every faction now has fast and capable anti-air in many forms; snipers, skimmers, fast movers, hovering alien plasma shooters, etc. Here are some tricks I’ve learned to keep my Tritons from getting splashed.

Fall Dropzone Tournament at Endgame
by Novus
This time around at Endgame we had 10 players, which is still one of the largest (if not THE largest) Dropzone tournament in the US. I'll go over the highlights of my games, rather than complete battle reports and talk about the rest of the tournament.

Custom Lictor Conversions
by Ron Smiley
Hey guys,
Here is a pic dump from a fresh batch of three assembly-lined Lictors. I'm in to the final week before NOVA, so I'm cranking it up to eleven in an effort to be ready in time.

Miniatures Swap Meet at Endgame in Oakland, CA
by Novus
This passed Sunday was the bi-annually held (every 2 years!!) Endgame Miniatures Swap Meet. I reserved a table so I could get rid of my Eldar force and some other miscellaneous gaming crap I've collected over the years. I have to say, this is a great idea that every FLGS should consider.

PHR Long Reach Team - Base Conversion
by Novus
I saw a great modification of Resistance Freeriders (over on Orbital Bombardment) the other day and decided that I'd like to try and augment my new PHR Long Reach Sniper Team bases. Tart them up a bit, as it were.

A Whack At Dropzone Commander Missions
by Novus
I bitch plenty about gaming, I suppose. Less now that I play Dropzone Commander as my primary tabletop fun. That's not to say I'm completely satisfied...

Buying Your First Airbrush and Compressor
by Antoine Rizzotti
An airbrush is one of the most important tools in scale
model painting. Airbrushes with fine nozzles and tips are typically designed
for using inks. Many types of economical
airbrushes and compressor kits are available on the market, but it can be
difficult to choose the best one for your application. So, before buying your
first airbrush and compressor you should understand some of the features and
uses for the equipment involved.

Tips for Switching to Dropzone Commander
by Novus
Last year I found the transition to Dropzone from 40k a little jarring. Recently teaching a friend of mine, a long time 40k player, how to play brought that process back to mind. So, I'd like to share some of my observations in order to maybe help others transition more smoothly than I did.

What GSI Is Up To
It's been awhile since I've personally posted anything and I'm sorry about that. There has been a good reason, though! Several good reasons!

Spawn! A Cranky Old Gamer Repost
For those of you who have yet to be awed by Cranky Old Gamer's work, please take a look at this repost. There is both some great sculpting and painting as well as a bit of Tentacle Maker use. Enjoy!

I've wanted to convert up some Chaos Spawn for my 40k Nurgle CSM force for some time. I wasn't too thrilled with the stock models, although they did have some nice bits in that kit, and didn't look too Nurgley. You know me - when it comes to my Nurgle CSM force, it pretty much has to be a labor of love conversion. So I started on these conversions a while ago, set them aside to work on some other stuff, and finally got around to finishing them. Super happy with the results! Check inside to see the results!

Lictor Conversion #2
Today we have another great Tyranid Lictor conversion from Ron. Not only is there some impressive conversion work, but the paint scheme is pretty striking, too!

Is it just me... Or do the PHR have a Dropship problem?
by Novus
I think I've nailed down what my only serious problem with PHR as a faction in Dropzone Commander is... their dropships.
Now, I know the PHR theme is slow, good punch at long range, and high toughness. But, with PHR dropships the theme seems to have been deviated from. The difference in point cost (typically over-valued compared to the other factions), punch (virtually no real offensive power), and speed (or, more accurately, lack of speed) is a triple handicap, I think. Mitigating just one of these would really help them be less of an "uphill battle" type of faction.

Nurgle Daemon Prince Conversion WIP
A while ago I inherited this pretty amazing War Gamma Maggot King from Frontline Gaming in Martinez, CA. I had no clear idea what to do with it when Frankie handed it to me. But upon hearing the Nurgle Daemonkin rumors, it started calling to me from the shelf.

Achievement Unlocked - Retail!
Due to a robust Dropzone Commander community, I've recently started spending my Tuesday nights at the excellent FLGS, EndGame, over in Oakland, CA. I ended up bringing some of my Destroyed Structure markers for folks to use at their quarterly DzC tournament. Never pass up a chance to do some marketing!

My Latest Dropzone Scatter Terrain
by Novus
I just finished some more of the 10mm Dropzone Commander scatter terrain. This barricade was something I've wanted to do for awhile, but didn't have the ballz to try it until two weeks ago. I really wasn't too confident in my 10mm sandbag sculpting abilities but it was actually pretty easy (short tutorial forthcoming).

Lictor Pose Conversion
By Ron Smiley
Hey everyone!
Ron here with the Facing The Grey Tide blog and today I'm posting a Lictor pose conversion I'm working. I'm running Lictorshame like all the other bandwagoneers these days, and I don't want to settle for 6 with the same identical "I'm hiding in plain sight" stance. So this is the beginning of my journey to create 6 individualized Lictors in all sorts of dynamic, stalker-ish poses (Lictors in the fluff are big time creepers hiding in the bushes and whatnot, not standing straight up in the open with jazz hands). I hope these posts inspire some crazy Lictor conversions of your own!

Converting Plague Marines from Dark Vengeance Chosen: Simple and Cheap
TJ here from Dark Future Games and tonight I want to talk about converting those Dark Vengeance Chosen that you swore you would do something with into something actually useful for your Chaos army and since GW hasn't made plastic ones, I want to make some Plague Marines out of my Dark Vengeance Chaos Marines. I puposefully stuck to a minimum of 3rd party bits and Green Stuff work because I wanted to show you how easy this can be and encourage a little bit of conversion out there, since I know everybody and their mother have these models on their shelf somewhere. Let's take a look at the squad I made.

Fast Mover Tactica - How I Use My Athena
by Novus
I know the overall meta for Dropzone Commander generally eschews the use of Fast Movers (FMs) in tournament play, but I think an FM, or two, can be essential to winning.

Tutorial: Sculpting Green Stuff Chains
TJ here with a tutorial on making 3D Green Stuff chains from Dark Future Games. This tutorial was created by DFG author and sculptor Chris Vinton, but I cleaned it up and posted it here to get it out there in hopes that it helps others!

Emulating Shaltnanigans - Part the Second
The Scourge Leviathan! |
Last week I attended the EndGame Dropzone Commander Campaign, LEVIATHAN! As its economy is based on Intel, I had high hopes of being able to put some of the theories I put forward on collecting Intel and Objectives in DzC to the test (see Emulating Shaltari Shenanigans... Sort Of). Luckily, both missions I was part of focused on collecting I/O. Although the first was a rural map, I was able to adapt somewhat successfully.

Broodlord Conversion
Guest Post by Waaagh! Gear
Hello from Japan! During my latest trip to Tokyo I found a Workshop to plunder in the Nakano. After some uming and arrhing I ignored the new crater scenery, the Space Wolves codex and the three book rule set and went for the Deathstorm box set. For 16000 yen I was pleased with the value. It contained a box worth of Genestealers, three 'Nid warriors, a Carnifex, five jump pack SMs, five Terminators, a Furioso Dreadnought and two unique models as well as the mini rule book. This seems like an excellent bundle with plenty of savings overall.

Dreadclaw from a Drop Pod Conversion Revised
TJ AKA Old School Terminator here from Dark Future Games to talk about converting Dreadclaws for your Chaos or you 30k army using just a single drop pod kit (technically less than the whole kit). I really dig the fact that using units like the Dreadclaw is becoming more widely accepted. Playing with these units shouldn't break a player's budget and it also shouldn't force them to resort to using the dreaded Pepsi Bottle Proxy. I want to revisit this tutorial, brush up the explanations and help distribute it to a whole other generation of players. Let's take a look.

Emulating Shaltari Shenanigans... Sort Of
by Novus (with great input by Chris Loomis)
I consistently get my PHR ass handed to me by Shaltari because of their speed, particularly on Objective (or Intel/Objective) based missions. Meta is that you should go for killing the gates, but if you're playing a smart player that may not be possible. So, I've been thinking on ways to emulate their Shaltnanigans. A couple of days ago something my gaming buddy, Chris Loomis, said crystalized my thinking.

Contributors Wanted!
Green Stuff Industries is looking for regular contributors of 40k content. In particular, modeling and conversion though posts on tactics and 40k in general would not be turned down. I, Novus (the one and only GSI employee), have made the move to Dropzone Commander and am not at all inclined to make the move back to 40k. This has left a content gap that could be filled by you!
Make yourself heard on a well established blog! Cut out all that "blog building" and start at the
Content related to other games would also be very welcome! GSI has had many excellent contributions over the last 3 years from around the world.
If you're interested in a place to regularly post your work, tutorials, and other hobby content please drop me a line via the Contact Page!

Quick Tip - Moving Decals
by Novus
I've started using decals on my PHR force because I needed a better way to differentiate my Triton A1's from the A2's during the game. So, I decided to add some unit markings using some GW decals I had laying around. I liked how the first effort turned out (above) which then lead to me wanting to add the black diamond and skull to all of my units.

Dropzone Tournament - EndGame in Oakland, CA

My LVO Dropzone Display Board

My PHR Are Ready For The LVO!
by Novus
I can finally field a fully painted PHR army, with variations! I would have posted these as they got finished but I broke my camera. I'm actually ready for the LVO a month ahead of time!
The background is my WIP display board for the LVO, which I'm having a blast doing. It's a nice break from the models themselves.
My fully painted army, so far...
