Back From BAO 2014

by Novus

This years Bay Area Open is done.  I didn't get to take as many pictures as the 2014 LVO or the 2013 BAO, but I sure had a great time!

Rusty Robot's Latest and Other GSI Hobby News

Rusty Robot's recently released "Who Goes There?" is just plain amazing work!  I'm only posting a selection of photos from this work, there's far more to see on his original post.  Hearken to the magic below the jump!

Las Vegas Open FAQ/Guide eBooks

I've converted both the Las Vegas Open (LVO) FAQ and Tournament Guide to eBook files (.mobi and .epub) that can be viewed on an eReader like an iPad or Kindle... or even a cell phone with an eReader app!

New Product - Objective Markers!

So after a few folks at the Bay Area Open asked me if I had objective markers to go along with my Omni-Templates, I thought I should produce some to fill the need.  You can purchase them from the GSI Product Page (or click the big green button in the upper right).  It's $8.00 plus shipping.

I created a set of five markers, laser cut and engraved on 1/8" faux aluminum on a black substrate, with the following five universal hazard symbols:
  • Skull and Crossbones, 40mm
  • Poison Gas, 40mm
  • Radiation, 25mm
  • Chemical Weapons, 25mm
  • Biological, 25mm
As you can see from the photos, the results turned out pretty good!  The set is specifically designed to fit the Bay Area Open requirements of two 40mm and three 25mm round objectives.

And, the set will fit nicely in the box alongside a Tentacle Maker Tool Box order.

I do have some other designs waiting in the wings, but they are in reserve until I see how these beauties do.  If you have any ideas for iconography (that is not GW owned, of course), I'm open for ideas.

BAO 2013 - Perfection To the End

by Novus

I’m wiped out. The Bay Area Open this last weekend was amazing! 144 singles players for 40k, about 50 WHFB, 22+ teams in the team event, a giant narrative event, a bushel of astounding models and armies, and some really cool vendors!  The guys at Frontline did a stupendous job!

GSI News and Stuff

Keno's Possessed Vindicator

That's a Lot of Tentacle Makers

I just received 100 Tentacle Maker Tool Boxes from my machine shop!  I'll be busy putting them together in the coming weeks so if you want to place an order, I should be able to ship it fairly quickly after receiving it.

Bay Area Open 2013!

Bay Area Open tickets are now on sale!  This event was a bunch of fun on a bun last time.  These are my BAO related posts from last year.

I will be entering a table in the Table Building Contest and maybe playing in the team event.  Also, GSI will likely be selling Tentacle Makers and Omni-Templates and hopefully other new products...

I'll see you there!

That’s A WIN!

DSCN0030
John Post-game.

I’ve been struggling with my CSM army since the beginning of March.  My record until last night was 0-1-8.  Now, after 9 games of horrible rolling and stupid mistakes, I eked out A FREAKIN’ WIN last night against John and his Wolf Guard over at Frontline.  Unfortunately, not having a sunny outlook about the game caused me not to take any pictures until the end.  So, this will be a wordy battle report of sorts, I’m afraid.

Blasted Planet – Smoke Effects at BAO!

GSI Blasted Planet Table
As some of you in the blogosphere might have noticed, the Blasted Planet table was at the Bay Area Open.   I was hesitant to let them include it because I’ve never designed a table for anyone else, let alone for a competition.   It was well received, which I’m extremely glad for.  The last thing I wanted to do was mess up games due to bad table design.

Bay Area Open - Fat Lady Sings!

The Chaos Undecided Army!
I attended my first tournament this past weekend as both a competitor and a vendor.  I had a lot of fun.  The guys at Frontline Gaming did an excellent job!  I don’t know how they have the energy to pull something like that off.

Store Visit - Frontline Gaming

This week I dropped in on Frontline Gaming in Martinez, California.  I showed up sorta late to catch a 40k game but I did get to hang out and talk to one of the owners, Reece, and a couple of the regulars, Tim and JP.  These guys are real enthusiasts and helped re-energize me on the gaming side of 40k.  I haven’t really played much and to be honest, it’s a daunting thing to just show up at a store and start a game with a complete stranger when you are a relative noob.  But, these guys treated me really well and I’m looking forward to getting back there next week and getting my ass handed to me (repeatedly).
