Endgame, my FLGS, has a Dropzone Commander day on the first Saturday of every month. Usually there is some event planned, like a tournament or a campaign day. But, this month nothing was scheduled and we were only about 8 days out. Mike, of Endgame, and Steve, a local player and formerly of Endgame, put the call out for ideas. I spoke up with an idea that has been in my mental system tray for a few months: a Dunkirk-style rescue scenario. Mike told me to run with it and here’s what happened.

Counts-As Aegis Sandbag Bunker Scratchbuild, Part 1

Gaming on-the-cheap is a must for me.  I wanted an Aegis Defense Line type of emplacement for my army but I can’t really justify spending the money on one right now.  I already had an Aegis Lascannon handy due to some frivolous (but ultimately fortunate) bits trading earlier in the year and I have a lot of Styrofoam, textured patch paint, and putty-like material (green stuff, clay, milliput, etc.) on hand in the man cave.  Everything I need to scratchbuild a piece of terrain that can double as a “counts as” Aegis line.

After scouring the 6th edition MRB this weekend I thought a fresh bunch of counters based on the new information were in order.  Also, I thought that they would help me/us in figuring out what is basically a new game by keeping things on the table crystal clear.

Well, the plasticard cutting part of my Dreadclaw build is done so I thought it about time to post the files and the progress.  It’s not an expertly done job by any means, but it gets the point across.  As a first effort I think I’ve done OK, so far.

I’ve known about eMachineshop.com’s free CAD software for quite awhile.  In fact, I designed the prototype SAW-050 with it.  On Friday I wrote this big How-To on making a power claw or Dread CCW with it, but I decided that was too convoluted to be of any use to anyone.  So, my goal here is to just show you really simply what can be done with this excellent free software.
