Spawn! A Cranky Old Gamer Repost

For those of you who have yet to be awed by Cranky Old Gamer's work, please take a look at this repost.  There is both some great sculpting and painting as well as a bit of Tentacle Maker use.  Enjoy!

<<<  >>>

I've wanted to convert up some Chaos Spawn for my 40k Nurgle CSM force for some time. I wasn't too thrilled with the stock models, although they did have some nice bits in that kit, and didn't look too Nurgley. You know me - when it comes to my Nurgle CSM force, it pretty much has to be a labor of love conversion. So I started on these conversions a while ago, set them aside to work on some other stuff, and finally got around to finishing them. Super happy with the results! Check inside to see the results!

Blight Drones (Counts As)

by Novus

Seeing as I wasn't using my Plague Drones, I decided to make them into Blight Drones.  I ripped off the riders, grabbed up some bits, and then bashed the heads together pretty quick.  After that it only took me 4 months to get back to them and paint them.  They still need a bit more work, but for now they are done.

Bad Drawing Bat Rep 1 – Daemons vs Chaos Marines/IG

Escher Hands

by Novus

I did bring my camera this time.  I did take some pictures.  But, I forgot to take pictures after turn 2.  So, welcome to “Bad Drawing Bat Rep 1 – Daemons vs Chaos Marines/IG!”  Enjoy!

Rick James Daemon Prince!

by Novus

I was over at Frontline Gaming the other night getting a game in with my buddy Pascal when Reece and the boys were looking over the Tentacle Maker work I've done on my army.  And, in the category of "Ideas I Wish I Had," Reece asked if I could put Tentacle Maker dreadlocks on a Daemon Prince he just threw together.

Gore, Fire, and Dragons

by Marlon of Evil Fluffy Creatures (Portuguese)

In these last few months since my previous guest post, I've been experimenting with a lot of forms, shapes, and ideas to make more eye-catching figures for our tabletops. I just produced three new ones by toying around with the concepts of gore and hellfire - pretty chaotic stuff - and I hope you like what I've done!

WIP Chaos Vindicator Conversion - Sculpting Finished

by Novus

Well, now that the BAO is behind me I was finally able to catch up on some of the stuff I put aside in preparing for it.  Specifically for this post, finishing the modifications to my Possessed Vindicator.  The time off helped.  Seeing all those amazing models at the event got me thinking, which generated some interesting ideas and realizations.

WIPs This Week (or Stoopid Vindi)

by Rich K

Well, I don't have any completed stuff to show you guys or any tutorials for that matter.  All I have are a couple of the WIPs I'm working, right now.  Above is one of two Plasmacutioners I'm painting up for my Traitor Guard allies.  It's my first try at pre-shading with my new Badger Renegade Krome Velocity airbrush.

Zombies! (sort of)... Chaos Spawn Counts As!

by Rich K.

I wanted to try out some Chaos Spawn but I didn't want to get stuck paying for them if I don't like the way they play.  I started out thinking I'll just proxy in some termies for a game or two... but then I had a brain wave!  I have an entire squad of WFB Zombies that I'll likely never use (Typhus is just too expensive, I think) so why not put 3 Zombies on a single 40mm base to represent the 3 wounds of a Chaos Spawn?

Bringing Balance to the Models - Or Shifting Away From It

Marlon of AssaultTuesdays.com

Ok, this idea is not originally mine. I stumbled upon it when I was looking for good tutorials about how to make Greenstuff flames (you can find a great one here). The airborne dragon in the site's example pictures got me thinking about how could I build and paint the 40k version of such an amazing composition...so...

Magnetizing A Heldrake

by Rich K.

The Heldrake is by far the most fiddly GW model I’ve encountered. The wings are probably a dozen pieces each and all of that weight connects at the shoulder! It’s a great looking model, but… man it’s a PITA to build.  So is the Warpsmith, by the way.

Blended Tiger Stripes Made Easy

By Rich K.

I’ve done my Screamers in a “non-traditional” color scheme: green with dark tiger stripes.  Seeing as this Chariot of Tzeentch (my Allied HQ for my CSM army) is basically a Tomb Kings chariot atop a giant Cyborg Screamer, I felt all my Screamers, large and small, should have a unified look.

Defiler Kit Bash

by Marlon

This Chaos Defiler came out of a discussion with a friend of mine, where I said I don't like the original, boxy look of the top hull. Since I am in the process of re-creating my entire Chaos Space Marine force to prepare for the new codex and I am using an Iron Warrior-esque scheme, he suggested I go with some organic parts along with some Fantasy bits. I felt Tomb Kings would be the best fit for a Tzeentch-y/Old Beast look. That aesthetic would fit nicely alongside my other Daemon Prince I did.

Chaos Space Marine Allies – Cheap Fast Attack Option!

Tzeentch Squad 1

by Rich K

As many out there know, I’m a CSM player who has been increasingly seeing the chinks in the CSM codex since I started playing 2 years ago.  But with the addition of allies, I think CSM has become much easier to play even without the upcoming codex improvements(?).

Khornate Chaos Lord Kit Bash Finished!

Front Pack

by Rich K.

I posted the WIP of this guy about a week ago and for some reason just hammered out the painting over the last few days.  I think he came out really well and is probably one of the top 3 models I think I’ve ever painted.

This Week’s WIPs

 work-in-progress1

by Rich K.

I’ve suspended my 40k purchasing in anticipation of the starter box.  I almost dropped a lot of dough a few times on a small IG army… I’d really like to add some traitors to my CSM but if the upcoming starter box comes with cultists, what’s the point?  So, I’m currently squeezing all I can out of the bits I have.  I wanted a big impressive Khorne Lord to lead my Berzerkers.  Hence, this guy…
