Magnetizing a Heldrake - Part 2 - The Wings

by Novus

I'm headed to the Las Vegas Open in about 2 weeks.  My first out of state tournament and I'm getting my army completely painted (finally) and ready for transport.  One thing that I'm really trying to do is compact my army for the trip.  But, the way a GW Heldrake is built, sort of a wide inverted-V with lots of easily broken fiddly bits, makes this difficult.  My Helbug breaks down really nicely (wings and carapace fold/come off) and I want to duplicate that functionality.  So, this is how I made my 2nd Heldrake (yes, I'm one step closer to being "that guy") take up less space in the army case.

Magnetizing Icarus/Quad Guns

by Novus

I'm counting some Icarus Lascannons as Sabre Lascannon Platforms for my IG allies, which is a great augmentation for a CSM army.  But, seeing as I keep picking them up by the cannon, I tend to leave the other half of the model on the table.  So I took a few minutes and figured out an easy way to magnetize the things.

How To Remove/Upgrade Magnets

Magnet Henge

by Novus

As you may know, Pascal gave me a squad of Chaos Terminators at the Bitz Swap Event last weekend.  Though well built and nicely primed, they suffered from droopy arm syndrome (below).  It looked like there were 1/16'” magnets in there and I wanted to upgrade to 1/8” so they could actually aim at things like those pesky ‘Nids and arrogant Eldar and commie Tau and goody-goody Loyalists and, well… any of those that opose the ultimate powers of Chaos!  Muwahahaha!

Magnetizing Vendetta Lascannons/Rocket Pods

by Novus

The Mordian 7th (who does some terrific work, BTW) seeing what I did with the swept wing Valkyrie/Vendetta idea, wanted a look at the way I did my Vendetta Lascannons.  Always eager to please, here you go...

Magnetizing A Heldrake

by Rich K.

The Heldrake is by far the most fiddly GW model I’ve encountered. The wings are probably a dozen pieces each and all of that weight connects at the shoulder! It’s a great looking model, but… man it’s a PITA to build.  So is the Warpsmith, by the way.
