Dropzone Bat Rep: UCM vs PHR

I take my newly (nearly completely) painted PHR army out against Reecius' UCM in this exciting game played on the new Urban Zone F.A.T. Mat, specifically designed for DzC!  Also, check out GSI's Destroyed Building Markers that Reece puts to good use during the game!

C'tan Conversion

by Monkeychuka

This is probably a bad time to start getting into Necrons, what with all the anticipated Tyranid releases.  The Toxicrene/Maleceptor is out this weekend and I should be clearing the decks and breaking out the magnets. I even bought White Dwarf for the first time in nearly a year and I actually didn't regret it.

Fixing Major Structural Bubbles the Easy Way

by Novus

The Dropzone Commander resin models are freaking amazing!  But, occasionally you get one or two models with a bubble on a section of model that is pointed or peaked.  Here's how I fix this issue quickly and easily.

MonkeyChucka's Amazing Malanthrope!

This morning we have a re-post of a couple of posts by Monkey Chucka over at the Chucking Monkeys blog.  This is an extremely impressive conversion and paint job... don't miss it!

Whilst attending a Warhammer 40k tournament recently, a friend walked up to me and said, "I've got something which I think you'll like".  He held up what looked like a small, perspex box.

40k Terrain - Mechanical Warhorse Comms Tower

by Novus

I got hold of a Mechanical Warhorse Communication Tower kit at the BAO 2014 and, like nearly all my other hobby projects, got to it long after the fact.  It's an excellent laser cut kit at a very reasonable price.  Paints up really nice, too!

DzC Terrain: Wrecked Bus

by Novus

Still on my Dropzone Commander kick.  More terrain this week!  This time it's a wrecked bus-involved auto collision (we don't say "accident" because that implies there is no one to blame).

DzC Terrain: Overgrown Monument

by Novus

I've dropped 40k for the time being in favor of the excellent Dropzone Commander.  I know 7th is awesome but I need the CSM codex to be reworked before I get back in again.  Hopefully, 2015 will bring that rumored update.

Zone Mortalis Board - Alpha Test

My buddy Myles from the blog There Is Only War bought a laser cutter last year and has been working on various projects with it.  One was cutting the wonderful Bay Area Open branded Omni-Templates that GSI donated for prize support this year.  Another is an amazing Zone Mortalis terrain system.

Digital Pro 2L Ultrasonic Cleaner! - Product Review

by Novus

I had some terrribad problems with some Army Painter primer recently.  It left the surface of the models with a gritty feel and an uneven finish.  I thought I could work around it and get my army ready for the BAO, but I was very wrong.  That gritty finish made my 10mm scale Dropzone Commander models nearly impossible to make look good, let alone allow me to paint them the way I wanted.  I either had to buy new models or that primer (and all the painting I did up until then) had to go!

Back From BAO 2014

by Novus

This years Bay Area Open is done.  I didn't get to take as many pictures as the 2014 LVO or the 2013 BAO, but I sure had a great time!

DzC: PHR Sirens - And How I Based Them

by Novus

It's a mad dash to get my army done for the BAO Dropzone Commander tournament.  I have roughly 10 days to complete my army!  I'm in a groove, so I think I'll pull it off.  It'll be close, though!

DzC: PHR Tritons - Now With Tutorials!

by Novus

I've finally gotten around to painting my PHR stuff.  I figured since I'll be doing demos of the game at the BAO on Saturday and playing in the tournament on Sunday, I should probably not show up with a bare army.  I'm pretty sure I won't get everything painted in time, but I'll sure as Hell try!

Nurgle Bike Lord!

Blight Drones (Counts As)

by Novus

Seeing as I wasn't using my Plague Drones, I decided to make them into Blight Drones.  I ripped off the riders, grabbed up some bits, and then bashed the heads together pretty quick.  After that it only took me 4 months to get back to them and paint them.  They still need a bit more work, but for now they are done.

Time for Terrain

by Novus

I thought it was about time for me to post some of my own stuff.  Since 7th has dropped and CSM got the nerf stick applied again (GW, why nerf the only serious unit CSM had going for it?  Why do you hate CSM so much?  WHY!?!?) I figured I should try other avenues for my tabletop gaming fun until things shake out in 40k.  Time to build some nice terrain and use that effort as a way to bolster my painting and weathering skills.

Go give his blog a look, too!  There are some great posts.  Hopefully, in the near future Thor will be giving us some more of his hobby wisdom.  Thanks, Thor!

How To Make Crushable Coke Cans

As hoped, Rusty Robot is sharing a simple technique for modeling crushed beverage cans!  In the test image of his latest diorama above, you can see one in the background.  These little cans can make a base or terrain piece really pop with detail.

Taking Control of Chaos Space Marines And 40k As A Whole

by Novus

Few things are more frustrating in 40k than getting your teeth kicked in at the list building phase of the game.  Having no chance whatsoever to damage the opponent or fend off his attacks because of a very real strength gap is just horrible game design.  I've played my pure CSM vs pure Tau a couple of times in a row recently and I probably won't do that again willingly.  Those games were the last straw(s).  It's just not fun playing against certain armies due to both a gap in codex strength and shoddy game design overall.  It should be fun playing this game no matter who is across the table from you, shouldn't it?

Tentacle Maker v2 Up For Pre-order!

The long wait is over!

The latest version of Green Stuff Industries’ Tentacle Maker Tool Box v2 is now available for pre-order via the GSI webstore for $24.95 each. Shipment of pre-ordered Tentacle Maker Tool Box’s will begin on or about May 5, 2014.  Orders will be filled on a first-in-first-out basis.

The Tool Box price has dropped by almost 30% due to our new injection molding process. Also, Tentacle Makers are now made of a clear optical resin! You can see the tentacles and tubes you roll, as you roll them!

I invite you to click through to the store.  There are a dozen new products available!  And while you’re there, don’t forget to have a look around the brand new Green Stuff Industries website!

Thanks for your support, patience, and interest in my product!

Tentacle Maker v2 - The Mold Is Done!

The mold is done and I'm extremely happy with the quality of the build!  I now understand (somewhat) why GW charges what they do for their models.  Injection mold making is a tricky thing.  Mine was relatively simple and it still took 5x longer than expected.  I can't imagine what the designers and mold makers at GW have to do to get a model kit to market.

Sculpting: A Yummy Marine In A Giant Stomach

by Novus

You can see my latest WIP above, a flying Mantis companion for my previous Helbug kitbash.  In putting this conversion together, I figured out a way to make very smooth sheets of Green Stuff (GS).  That's what is covering that stomach-looking thing with the bulges you see below.

Quick v2 Tentacle Maker Progress Report

The mold modifications seemed to have worked!  We're running one more test with a different injection material, either today or Monday, and then production can begin!  I'm estimating only about 2 more weeks!

Thanks for your patience!  The refund offer for outstanding orders still applies.  Ask to be put on the Release Notification List by contacting me via the Contact page.

Super Easy Scatter Terrain: Barrels

by Novus

To me, terrain is just as fun to make as the models.  Like the table top models we so lovingly put together and paint, the quality of the terrain we play on adds tremendously to the quality of the game experience.

Progress Report: Tentacle Makers v2

Let me start off by saying that anyone who wants a refund on an outstanding order please just let me know and I'll process it within 24 hours.  I would like to add that not one person has asked for a refund so far... which is a stunning amount of trust you guys put in me/GSI.  I very much appreciate the confidence that instills in me.  Thank you all!

The latest modifications to the mold half worked.  There is one more adjustment (major mold change) that I was hoping to avoid and will add yet another week (and of course, more cost) to the process.  I should have product available by the end of March, at the latest.  I'm that close (holds fingers a millimeter apart)!

I'm going to receive the less than perfect parts from the most recent mold test later this week.  But, I'm not waiting to get them before this final mod gets implemented.  This project needs to successfully conclude ASAP or I'm going to go nuts!

If you would like to be added to the release notification list please visit the new GSI Contact Page, select Release Notification List in the dropdown, write a short note, and click the Submit button at the bottom.

Again, thanks to all of you, those with outstanding orders and their brothers on the Release Notification List, for your patience!  I will not be defeated by little slabs of steel and gobs of injected plastic!

Good News: v2 Tentacle Makers! (and bad: Delays)

In trying to bring GSI to the next level, I've invested in having injection molds for the Tentacle Makers made.  That is happening right now and but for one technical hurdle, I thought I'd be swimming in product by the end of this month.  But, Murphy's Law has bitten me in the ass... again.

So here is some information I'd like to convey about the present situation...

  1. Everyone who currently has open orders for Tentacle Makers will get v2 product and they will be refunded the price difference upon shipment.
  2. Sale of Tentacle Makers has been suspended until v2 is ready.  I have 20+ folks waiting right now (some for more than a month) and it's really starting to stress me out.  That is not how I want to do business.
  3. If your order is still open, i.e. hasn't been shipped, and you're fed up with waiting, I'm happy to give you a full refund.  Just forward me a copy of your Paypal email receipt (to the address below) and put "Please Refund" in the subject line.
  4. If you want to order a set of v2 Tentacle Makers, shoot me an email with "Release Notification List" in the subject and I'll add you to the mass mailing when they are ready.  Which should be no more than a month away.

Lastly, I would like to thank all of you who still have open orders with GSI for your patience and understanding.  I ask that you bear with me just a little longer.

Thanks Again,
Rich K. (Novus)
Green Stuff Industries

NEW!:  To contact GSI visit the new GSI Contact Page, select Release Notification List in the dropdown, write a short note, and click the Submit button at the bottom.  If you are looking to get a refund, please forward your Paypal receipt email to me (tentaclemaker(at)gmail(dot)come) and I'll process it within 24 hours.

Spikey Bits Gives Tentacle Makers a Shout Out!

A short video by MBG over at Spikey Bits showing off his Chaos Centurion Conversion.  They are a Space Marine Iron Warriors army counting as CSM.  Great work using both pewter cables and Tentacle Maker tubes.  I can't wait to see them painted!

Magnetizing a Heldrake - Part 2 - The Wings

by Novus

I'm headed to the Las Vegas Open in about 2 weeks.  My first out of state tournament and I'm getting my army completely painted (finally) and ready for transport.  One thing that I'm really trying to do is compact my army for the trip.  But, the way a GW Heldrake is built, sort of a wide inverted-V with lots of easily broken fiddly bits, makes this difficult.  My Helbug breaks down really nicely (wings and carapace fold/come off) and I want to duplicate that functionality.  So, this is how I made my 2nd Heldrake (yes, I'm one step closer to being "that guy") take up less space in the army case.

Badger SOTAR 20/20 Product Review

by Novus

Someone on 40k For Grown Ups (a great Facebook group I belong to) linked the group to Amazon where Badger SOTAR 20/20's were being sold for $59.99.  To be honest, I didn't have much faith in a product that has an MSRP of over $400 and is being sold at an 85% discount, but I needed another airbrush to replace the one I accidentally threw away (never mount your airbrush holder over a trashcan).  At that price, I was willing to take the risk.

Farewell to the Old Bugs! Double Header Bat Rep!

Wednesday I got a friendly game (second game in the video) in against Geoff “InControl” Robinson over at Frontline.  The video is part of two games Geoff played against Frankie and his Deldar and then me and my Chaos/IG.  I had a run of crappy rolling: min rolls and a scatter off the table for my Manticore rockets, Night Fight didn't help, and I failed quite a few saves I should have made (how does my Biker lord get wounded by an exploding tank?  WTF?!?).

I did also have small streaks of good luck: my Helbug grounded his Flyrant and then the Quad finished it off, my Biker lord Murdered the Doom, my Termies lasted far longer than they should have (which was not such a good thing, in hindsight, as the Swarmlord was at normal strength due to a perils.  I could have scored a Slay the Warlord for that one).

I have to say, I'm not sad the Doom is doomed.  It would have been a much closer game had that unit not been part of his army.  Though, the Murder Sword works pretty damned well against him.  I included the Murder Sword in my build just to try it out and it does have its uses.  Very specific uses, mind you.

Also, I'm switching out the Termies (though I love them) for a second Heldrake for the LVO.  Hopefully, that will help me not get walked on in every game I play.  It also frees up some points for some other fun upgrades.

It was a fine game and I did better than expected.  I played well but the dice were generally against me... what can you do?  Good luck at the T-Shift Open, guys!
