More Figs!

Clearly, I'm not keeping up as well as I could.  So, here's a Barbarian Warrior and...

...and a Barkeep.

I think these are both Reaper Miniatures.  I've been working on my use of inks and zenithal undercoating.

Thanks for dropping by!

Elanter, The Lost Prince

Well, it's been a rough couple years, for sure.  I'm going to start posting again.  Short posts of painted figures, mostly.  I'll try to keep it regular, but don't hold your breath.  Wish me luck.

What Happened?

Now that I'm stuck at home, off and on, I figured I should post something about what's going on in the Rich/GSI gaming world.

Escape Pod Objective - FINALLY!

Been walking around with this idea in my head for 2 years now and I finally got it out in the world.  It's not spectacular modelling, but it makes for a really cool objective.

Dropzone Vampires!

I'm slowly building a Scourge force.  It's not taking me as much time as my PHR because the paint scheme is much easier and mostly air-brush-based.  I've had these little beauties in my paint queu for a looooong time.  Mostly because they were a horrible unit on the table.  Now?  They are pretty damned good!

Bolt Action German StuG III Ausf. G

OK, I've fallen behind on posting again.  I picked up Bolt Action this year but got bogged down in Destiny 2.  I've resolved to put down the controller and work on the hobby again.  Here's my newly finished StuG.

Status Update

Well, it's been awhile.

Since my last post I've started a new job.  Had to move my laser 22 miles.  Played a bit on the war table, here and there.  And begun really enjoying the Scourge of Dropzone Commander.

The Scourge are very different from what I'm used to with the PHR.  It's odd to be able to chase and CATCH things.  I'm really looking forward to the v2 release, now.

Speaking of DzC v2, it's pretty awesome. So far, there's only been a couple of things that need clarification, like searching after you are part of a CQB.  There's a couple of things that might need to be toned down, like Flame weapons/Fire and the Flamer on the Desolator (I'd make it a 2 shot attack rather than a 3 shot).

That photo above is my bench.  Lot's of DzC units need painting and some scenery, too!

My new job has me commuting far more and sometimes working on the weekends.  My content will likely be scarce, unfortunately.  I'm working on a few new products but the lack of time really eats in to me finishing them.  I'm hoping to have 6+ new products completed by the time DzC v2 drops.  I'm finding that I need to sacrifice posting to be able to get the other stuff done.

Either way, I'm still hobby-ing!  I'll post when I can.

My First Bolt Action Game

by Novus

I've been a WW2 buff since I was a young kid.  I used to build aircraft models and hang them in dogfights from the ceiling in my bedroom.  That was 21 different aircraft in 1/48 scale!  My dad had to duck when he walked around my room.

Picking Up The Fork In The Road

Well, I took some time off from war gaming.  I needed it.

I'm forcing myself to start playing again and building and creating new products.

We won't be at LVO this year... 'way behind on that effort and the ROI isn't there if all we ever do is a bit better than break even.

I'm looking forward to starting Bolt Action (Germans), as well as the new edition of DzC (for the most part).  I might even dig out my Nurgle forces and see what 40k has turned into.

From those three avenues, hopefully, new content for the blog will be forthcoming.

Wish me luck.

Dropzone Commander: Rare But Not Scarce

Something I've been considering lately is rare units.  For being rare, there sure seems to be a lot of them on the table sometimes.  Maybe if rare units were actually rare, we'd see the basic units (from the original book, or just plain non-rare units) come back to the game a bit more.

Inexpensive Hard Case For Your Figs

My wife and I were strolling through Harbor Freight (a chain hardware and tool emporium that might as well be named ACME) when she points at an aluminum tool travel case and says “Could you use that for your armies?”  Kneeling down next to it and feeling the cool, bright aluminum beneath my greedy fingers, “Yes, I could.”

Host to a Xeno-parasite

I actually got to play my new Scourge army a couple of weekends ago.  That was eye-opening!  To have transports that can reach the mid-line on T1 is incredible to me.  I never realized how SLOOOOWwwww PHR are until I started zipping around the table as an alien host.

Resisting the Resistance

by Novus

I've recently had a bad time against the Resistance.  Of all the Dropzone factions, the Resistance are the ones who tend to steamroll me somewhat consistently.  I can play around the Shaltari.  I'm golden vs PHR.  The UCM are not at their most powerful, right now, so dealing with them is not bad.  The Scourge can be dicey, but they aren't crazy powerful at the moment, either.  My problem on the tabletop is definitely the Resistance.

Escalation League - Round One

Dropzone interest has been falling off in my area, lately.  To help combat that trend I decided to organize an escalation league over at Endgame in Oakland to encourage new players.  We had 12 folks signed up, but only 6 showed to play.  Which for a free event, is to be expected.  Unfortunately, 5 of the 6 were our die hard players.

Back From LVO 2017

by Novus

My posting has been few and far between lately.  Mostly because any spare time I had was spent either getting my fleet painted for Dropfleet at LVO or getting product ready for the long drive and subsequent marathon that is the LVO.

Fleet Rumble - Dropfleet Commander Meetup

Last Saturday, the Dropzone guys at Endgame Oakland got together to play some Dropfleet.  We had 11 players show up (The One Who Is Late was late, of course) but only 3 of the 4 factions were represented.

Fall Brawl 2016 Has a Champion!

For organizing my first tournament, it seemed to have gone pretty well. Our local Meta/attendance has dropped off dramatically so I'd hoped to try and breath some life back into the area by hosting a tournament at Endgame in Oakland, CA.

Dropzone Bridge Terrain Complete!

Finally finished one of the Vers Nijmegen Bridge sets I set aside for myself.  Turned out pretty good so I thought I share how I weather and age my N-scale cars.

Dropzone Commander Bat Rep from Derek - Shout Out To GSI!

Derek and Jordan fight it out in one of the new Reconquest: Phase 2 missions and test some of the newer units to boot!

Derek also shows off the Structure Damage Counters GSI now offers.  Apparently, he likes them!

Dropzone Commander Battle Report #29 - 1000 PHR vs. Resistance - Targets of Opportunity

Cameron Blume and I battled it out at Endgame in Oakland, CA back in late June (early July?).  Now that he's a Bay Area resident he came by one of our DzC Saturday events and we ran through a 1000 point game of Targets.  It was a close (and) bloody game!
