Dropzone Commander Battle Report #29 - 1000 PHR vs. Resistance - Targets of Opportunity

Cameron Blume and I battled it out at Endgame in Oakland, CA back in late June (early July?).  Now that he's a Bay Area resident he came by one of our DzC Saturday events and we ran through a 1000 point game of Targets.  It was a close (and) bloody game!

Custom Lictor Conversions

by Ron Smiley

Hey guys,

Here is a pic dump from a fresh batch of three assembly-lined Lictors. I'm in to the final week before NOVA, so I'm cranking it up to eleven in an effort to be ready in time.

Buying Your First Airbrush and Compressor

 by Antoine Rizzotti

An airbrush is one of the most important tools in scale model painting. Airbrushes with fine nozzles and tips are typically designed for using inks.  Many types of economical airbrushes and compressor kits are available on the market, but it can be difficult to choose the best one for your application. So, before buying your first airbrush and compressor you should understand some of the features and uses for the equipment involved.

Spawn! A Cranky Old Gamer Repost

For those of you who have yet to be awed by Cranky Old Gamer's work, please take a look at this repost.  There is both some great sculpting and painting as well as a bit of Tentacle Maker use.  Enjoy!

<<<  >>>

I've wanted to convert up some Chaos Spawn for my 40k Nurgle CSM force for some time. I wasn't too thrilled with the stock models, although they did have some nice bits in that kit, and didn't look too Nurgley. You know me - when it comes to my Nurgle CSM force, it pretty much has to be a labor of love conversion. So I started on these conversions a while ago, set them aside to work on some other stuff, and finally got around to finishing them. Super happy with the results! Check inside to see the results!

Lictor Pose Conversion

By Ron Smiley

Hey everyone!

Ron here with the Facing The Grey Tide blog and today I'm posting a Lictor pose conversion I'm working. I'm running Lictorshame like all the other bandwagoneers these days, and I don't want to settle for 6 with the same identical "I'm hiding in plain sight" stance. So this is the beginning of my journey to create 6 individualized Lictors in all sorts of dynamic, stalker-ish poses (Lictors in the fluff are big time creepers hiding in the bushes and whatnot, not standing straight up in the open with jazz hands). I hope these posts inspire some crazy Lictor conversions of your own!

Broodlord Conversion

Guest Post by Waaagh! Gear

Hello from Japan! During my latest trip to Tokyo I found a Workshop to plunder in the Nakano. After some uming and arrhing I ignored the new crater scenery, the Space Wolves codex and the three book rule set and went for the Deathstorm box set. For 16000 yen I was pleased with the value. It contained a box worth of Genestealers, three 'Nid warriors, a Carnifex, five jump pack SMs, five Terminators, a Furioso Dreadnought and two unique models as well as the mini rule book. This seems like an excellent bundle with plenty of savings overall.

C'tan Conversion

by Monkeychuka

This is probably a bad time to start getting into Necrons, what with all the anticipated Tyranid releases.  The Toxicrene/Maleceptor is out this weekend and I should be clearing the decks and breaking out the magnets. I even bought White Dwarf for the first time in nearly a year and I actually didn't regret it.

MonkeyChucka's Amazing Malanthrope!

This morning we have a re-post of a couple of posts by Monkey Chucka over at the Chucking Monkeys blog.  This is an extremely impressive conversion and paint job... don't miss it!

Whilst attending a Warhammer 40k tournament recently, a friend walked up to me and said, "I've got something which I think you'll like".  He held up what looked like a small, perspex box.

Thor over at Creative Twilight has made this great video tutorial of his process for quickly and effectively painting figures to a table top quality standard.  It's a fast and simple and gets the job done very well... a great way to get your figs painted ASAP!  Give it a look.

Go give his blog a look, too!  There are some great posts.  Hopefully, in the near future Thor will be giving us some more of his hobby wisdom.  Thanks, Thor!

How To Make Crushable Coke Cans

Guest Post by Rusty Robot

As hoped, Rusty Robot is sharing a simple technique for modeling crushed beverage cans!  In the test image of his latest diorama above, you can see one in the background.  These little cans can make a base or terrain piece really pop with detail.

Gore, Fire, and Dragons

by Marlon of Evil Fluffy Creatures (Portuguese)

In these last few months since my previous guest post, I've been experimenting with a lot of forms, shapes, and ideas to make more eye-catching figures for our tabletops. I just produced three new ones by toying around with the concepts of gore and hellfire - pretty chaotic stuff - and I hope you like what I've done!

Second Annual Alabama 40k C.A.G.E Match

by Jeff Weibelt

Would it be possible to run a statewide tournament for Alabama?

That was the question that the CAGE Match was trying to answer. We knew what all we wanted to accomplish: to find the best player in the state, to encourage communities from across the state to interact and to put on the best tournament we possibly could. It was a lot to bite off, but for the most part, the first CAGE Match was successful. So in our own insane mind, we decided to try it again.
